- 1 turkey (10-12 lbs)
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh rosemary
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh thyme
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh sage
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 onion, quartered
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 cups chicken broth
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Remove the turkey from its packaging and rinse it thoroughly. Pat it dry with paper towels.
- In a small bowl, mix together the butter, rosemary, thyme, sage, salt, and black pepper.
- Gently loosen the skin over the turkey breast and legs. Rub the herb butter under the skin, massaging it all over the turkey meat.
- Place the onion and garlic inside the turkey cavity.
- Place the turkey in a roasting pan and add the chicken broth to the bottom of the pan.
- Cover the turkey with foil and roast for 2 hours.
- Remove the foil and roast for another 1 hour, basting the turkey with the pan juices every 20 minutes.
- Check the turkey's internal temperature with a meat thermometer - it should reach 165°F (75°C) in the thickest part of the turkey.
- Once done, remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for 20-30 minutes before carving and serving.
